Thornham Marina, nestled in a rural part of Chichester Harbour at the top of Prinsted Bay, is a delightful haven for boat owners. With 81 drying pontoon berths, 13 swinging moorings, it has additional berths within a gated deep water pool, which maintains a depth of 1.75m.
The marina offers annual berthing, storage ashore, winter packages, and short-term storage deals for boat owners based across the South Coast and London. Each pontoon berth has access to fresh water and electricity, as do all the shore berthing spaces throughout the yard.
The marina and boatyard give excellent shelter for winter berthing and shoreside storage.
Thornham offers boaters a traditional marina experience with first class marina facilities, due to a programme of steady investment and renovation. The sheltered waters of Prinsted Bay readily opens out into the main body of Chichester Harbour, with the Solent beyond.
State of the art lifting facilities include a 12 tonne fully submersible boat lift made by Swede Ship, a Telescopic Merlo Telehandler for stepping/un-stepping masts and a Wise boat hoist. On-site an active marine community includes a fully-stocked, modern chandlery, cover and sail repairer, traditional shipwright, rigger, dinghy sales and multihull broker.
Our Background
Thornham Marina was purchased in September 2002 by Jonny Boys, who initiated a long-term programme of refurbishment and renovation to modernise the marina’s facilities while preserving its traditional charm and atmosphere. New Walcon pontoons were installed, a luxurious shower block was built, and new offices and workshops were created for marine tenants, blending modern convenience with the marina’s heritage.
Thornham Marina is now proudly part of The Trafalgar Group, a dynamic collective in the leisure boating and property sectors that has been enhancing client experiences on both water and land since the mid-1990s. Now based at Northshore Shipyard in Itchenor, The Trafalgar Group’s journey began with high-quality powerboat refits and sales, leading to the establishment of JBT Marine and Ballistic RIBs.
A key chapter in the group’s history was the transformation of the former Vosper Thornycroft site into Trafalgar Wharf. This site became a major hub for leisure boating and commercial activity, featuring Europe’s largest indoor dry stack boat storage and a thriving commercial shipyard, before its successful sale to Premier Marinas in late 2023.
Today, The Trafalgar Group’s portfolio includes RIBs For Sale, Ballistic RIBs, Boat Club Trafalgar, Thornham Marina, Northshore Shipyard, and Gatcombe House. The group offers a wide array of services, from hassle-free boating experiences to tranquil office spaces, continuing its mission to elevate client experiences both on the water and ashore.
Introduced in 2019, the elegantly designed Ark boats are available for luxury overnight stays. Custom built between Thornham Marina and Walcon Marine, the Arks are a totally unique boat, spacious enough to accommodate two people.
